About the role
SGHI is looking for an Associate, Editorial & Publications to own the written record of our work: the policy briefs, case studies, technical papers, and flagship reports that carry our evidence to governments, funders, and partners.You will commission, edit, and publish this work with SGHI’s technical staff, programme teams, and leadership, building a body of work that grows steadily over the years rather than in bursts. You will hold everything SGHI publishes to one editorial standard: every figure carries a denominator, a date, and a source.This role suits a writer and editor with strong judgment, who can make complex technical material simple without losing rigour, and who checks every claim before it goes out.
Key responsibilities
Editorial leadership and content development
●Commission pieces from technical staff, researchers, and leadership, and keep every commission on schedule against the editorial calendar.
●Write and edit SGHI’s publications, including policy briefs, synthesis notes, case studies, technical papers, donor and partner reports, and the flagship annual report.
●Write and edit plain-language content across the website’s six focus areas. Each page works in three layers: a plain summary, a short explainer, and links to technical detail, so a policymaker, a funder, and a first-time visitor can each find what they need.
●Lead the production of executive summaries, launch materials, and other products that help SGHI’s work reach its audiences.
Publishing standards and sourcing
●Edit to a documented standard, not personal taste: every figure carries a denominator, a date, and a source before publication.
●Check every claim with the people and institutions it describes before publication, not after.
●Keep formats consistent across briefs, papers, case studies, and data explorers, so readers always know what kind of document they are reading.
●Work with designers to turn final drafts into finished publications that match SGHI’s formats and brand.
●Own the editorial calendar, rotating content each quarter across SGHI’s six focus areas so that no single area dominates.
Newsletters and leadership support
●Write and edit the quarterly external newsletter and the monthly internal newsletter, using the same voice and sourcing standard for both.
●Support the preparation of speeches, talking points, and briefings for senior leadership.
●Advise colleagues on adapting messages and formats for different audiences, from technical funders to first-time website visitors.
Brand and voice
●Keep the homepage and focus-area pages in the voice set out in SGHI’s brand guidelines: clear, human, grounded, and progressive.
●Replace generic phrases such as “world-class,” “capacity building,” and “stakeholders” wherever they appear.
●Maintain the publishing workflows that keep SGHI’s voice consistent across every channel.
Skills and experience Required
●Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Policy, or a related field.
●At least 3 years’ experience in editorial writing, publications, or policy communications, in a newsroom, research institute, or similar setting.
●Excellent writing and line-editing skills, including the ability to explain complex technical material to a general audience without losing accuracy.
●Experience fact-checking and sourcing published work.
●Sound judgment and discretion, and confidence managing commissions from senior technical staff and leadership.
Preferred
●Master’s degree in a relevant field.
●Experience in global health, development, or public-sector reform.
●Experience running an editorial calendar and publishing to a fixed schedule.
●Comfort working with data and editing charts, tables, and other data visuals.
●Familiarity with donor, government, or multilateral reporting requirements.
●Experience with a website content management system, such as Wix, and with Google Workspace for shared drafting and review.

SGHI seeks a highly motivated Senior Associate – Data Integration/Analyst to join its Global Health Security (GHS) delivery team. The Senior Associate will design and implement the statistical and signal-generation methods used to detect and corroborate patterns, such as cross-program signals and disease clusters, working within a pre-agreed selection and evaluation framework. The Senior Associate will work closely with the Technical Lead, the Data Governance Lead, and the Informatics & Surveillance Lead to ensure that signals prepared for review by the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) meet the project’s statistical, data-quality, and documentation standards.This role combines advanced statistical analysis, surveillance methods development, data-quality assurance, and rigorous documentation, and is designed for a self-driven professional with strong quantitative skills, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, decision-ready outputs for government and technical stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
Analytical Method Development
● Design and implement statistical and signal-generation methods for the project’s use cases, including cross-program patterns and disease clusters.
● Apply pre-agreed statistical and data-quality thresholds, including adjustments for population and seasonal patterns, before any signal is submitted for review.
● Test methods against routine comparators and document their performance, limitations, and confidence criteria.
Signal Generation & Quality Assurance
● Prepare signals for KNPHI review, specifying the location, period, syndrome, contributing sources, source quality, magnitude, confidence level, and material limitations of each signal.
● Corroborate single-stream deviations across independent data sources before escalation, applying pre-specified thresholds.
● Support the measurement of data-source latency, coding consistency, and amendment and rejection rates, and assess their effect on signals.
Portability & Documentation
● Document signal definitions, analytical logic, confidence criteria, and test cases so that a qualified third party can reproduce the methods.
● Contribute to the technical annex describing the re-identification risk assessment and the analytical architecture.
● Support the preparation of materials for the project’s mid-line review and evidence synthesis.
Collaboration & Reporting
● Work with the data engineering team on data quality, record-linkage performance, and denominator availability relevant to the analysis.
● Report analytical progress, risks, and data limitations to the Technical Lead and the Informatics & Surveillance Lead.
● Contribute to quarterly data-quality and progress reporting to the Gates Foundation and KNPHI.
Skills & Experience Required
● Bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
● Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analysis or data science.
● Strong knowledge of statistical and epidemiological methods
● Strong quantitative and statistical analysis skills, with proficiency in a data-science programming language (e.g., Python or R) and SQL.
● Sound understanding of data privacy, pseudonymization, and role-based access principles applicable to the analysis of sensitive health data.
● Ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, decision-ready outputs for non-technical stakeholders, such as county and KNPHI reviewers.
● Rigorous, detail-oriented approach to the testing, documentation, and reproducibility of analytical methods.
● Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) and working proficiency in Kiswahili.

The Technical Advisor will serve as the day-to-day link between the SGHI technical team, the Ministry of Health (MoH), county health departments, and health facilities, ensuring the delivery of assigned projects. Ministry of Health & County Support
● Coordinate with facility- and sub-county-level focal persons to verify and follow up on project deliverables.
● Communicate review outcomes to the Project Lead.
County Readiness & Systems Implementation
● Support county readiness assessments and related HSS activities.
● Support the onboarding of county stakeholders to relevant SGHI tools, dashboards, and project deliverables.
● Coordinate county-level logistics for data-source engagement and HSS activities.
Stakeholder Liaison & Coordination
● Serve as the primary point of contact between the SGHI GHS team, county health management teams, and other MoH and county-level counterparts.
